The Estate
A tale of passion
The "Domaine des Closiers" is located in Parnay, in the heart of the Saumur Champigny appellation, it extends over 24 hectares on clay-limestone soil. The vines have an average age of 35 years.
The "Closiers" is the name given to the winegrowers who worked in the enclosed vineyards or "clos" and lived in the troglodytic dwellings at the foot of the sloping hillsides. Through this name, Anatole pays tribute to these workers, convinced of the power of the collective and of team spirit.
The winegrower is nothing without his team and the complementarity of know-how that share a taste for excellence and the love of a job well done.
15 ha, located in Parnay, are certified organic (ecocert) and cultivated to produce wines from Domaine des Closiers. 9 ha are in organic conversion. They constitute a 'reserve' for the domain.
Located in Souzay-Champigny and Dampierre, these plots cover the estate in the event of a climatic hazard that would affect Parnay, thus ensuring that all the grapes used were grown by the estate without ever having recourse to external supplies.
This reserve allows the renewal of the vineyard to begin while giving time to nature. The plots will in fact be replanted 5 to 7 years after they were uprooted in order to allow the soil to regenerate.
Beneath the vine roots, limestone caves were dug into the Tuffeau Stone, shelters for the wines, allowing for slow and harmonious vinification and aging processes

The majority of the vineyard is planted with Cabernet Franc to produce rich and fine wines in AOC Saumur Champigny.
We also have a few Chenin plots that are used to produce our white wine (Allegory) under the Saumur appellation.
